In a surprising turn of events, Raphael Varane has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 31.

The defender, who faced challenges with injuries after joining Manchester United from Real Madrid, recently suffered a serious knee injury just 20 minutes into his debut for Serie A side Como.

“They say all good things must come to an end,” Varane began. “In my career, I have taken on many challenges and risen to the occasion time and again. It’s been filled with incredible emotions, special moments, and memories that will last a lifetime. With immense pride, I am announcing my retirement from the game that we all love.”

Varane emphasized his desire to leave the sport on his own terms: “I hold myself to the highest standard. It takes courage to listen to your heart. I have fallen and risen a thousand times, but now it’s time to hang up my boots, with my final game-winning trophy at Wembley.”

Reflecting on his journey, Varane expressed gratitude for the support he received throughout his career. “I have loved fighting for my clubs, my country, and the supporters of every team I have played for. From Lens to Madrid to Manchester, I have defended every badge with everything I have.”
